How do you transfer files from one iPhone to another, or sync with your Mac without connecting your iPhone to it via cable? Simple: you use Airdrop. Airdrop is a direct file sharing service developed by Apple Inc. that allows files to be transferred hassle-free between any two Apple devices through the use of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. This service is provided on supported devices free of charge. All you need to do is learn how to turn on Airdrop on your Apple device.
How to Turn on Airdrop on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod
Step 1: Unlock the Apple device containing the files you wish to transfer.
Step 2: Ensure that Airdrop is enabled on your iOS device. To do this, simply open Settings, select “General,” followed by “Restrictions,” and confirm that restrictions are turned off. If they are turned on, simply make sure that Airdrop is enabled.
Step 3: Open the iOS Control Center (swipe up on your display).
Step 4: Locate the Airdrop bar and tap it.
Step 5: Tap “Everyone” to enable file transfers to any iOS or macOS device in the immediate vicinity, or “Contacts Only” to limit the capability to just devices listed in your contacts.
Step 6: Repeat the previous steps for the device to which you wish to transfer the files.
How to Turn on Airdrop on a Mac, Macbook, or iMac
Using Airdrop on a Mac is exactly the same as using the iOS version of Airdrop, the only difference being how it is enabled.
Step 1: Open the Finder by clicking the Finder icon.
Step 2: Locate the Airdrop icon and click it. Turn on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth if prompted to do so.
Step 3: If necessary, switch the “Allow me to be discovered by” setting to “Everybody”.
Airdrop is a very convenient feature, and learning to use it is relatively easy. If you run into any problems during the process of enabling Airdrop, such as not being able to locate the Airdrop function on you iOS or macOS device, or not being able to initiate a file transfer, you can visit the Apple website’s FAQ section on Airdrop for more information, both for iOS and macOS devices. Alternatively, you can contact Apple support directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE or via chat on Apple support. We look forward to your comments on this useful Apple feature!
