Messenger is Facebook’s messaging application for different types of smartphones. While using it, you may notice that there is no built-option for logging out of your Facebook account. However, you can use the Facebook web interface to view your active Messenger sessions and manually log out. In this article, we show you how to logout of Messenger on iPhone’s Safari browser.

How to Logout of Messenger on iPhone

Follow the steps below to force the Messenger application to log out of your Facebook account.

Step 1: Close the Messenger application if you currently have it open. Since the application does not have a native logout option, you will need to use the Safari mobile web browser instead.
Step 2: Tap the “Safari” icon from your homescreen to launch the mobile web browser.
Step 3: Navigate to the Facebook mobile website by entering the address in the top address bar, and tapping the “Go” button.
Step 4: Log in to the Facebook mobile website with your email address and password.
Step 5: Tap on the three-line button in the upper-right corner of the window.
Step 6: Select “Account Settings” from the “Help & Settings” section of the menu that appears. This is located at the very bottom of the menu, so you may need to scroll past several other sections.
Step 7: Tap on the row labeled “Security and Login.” This will appear near the top of the window, just below the “General” settings row.
Step 8: Look for the section labeled “Where You’re Logged In,” and click on the “See More” link. This will open a new window that lists each active session your Facebook account has open, including sessions from the Messenger application.
Step 9: Identify the active session from the Messenger application. Look in the list for the name of your iPhone model, and ensure the word “Messenger” is displayed beneath it.
Step 10: Tap on the three-dot icon next to the session row, and choose the “Log Out” option.

Once you have successfully ended the Facebook session through the mobile website, you can launch the Messenger application and log in with a different account. Facebook has documented this process in a Help Center article. Keep in mind that the latest versions of the Messenger application allow you to log in with multiple accounts and switch between them.
